Lagos. Stakeholders in the Food, Beverage and Tobacco (FBT) Sector of the Manufacturers Association of Nigeria (MAN) are calling on all local manufacturers to sustain the culture of quality throughout the entire manufacturing process as a strategy of maintaining brand loyalty while wooing new targets and ultimately increase bottom line consistently.

This charge was made during the 2024 Annual General Meeting of the Food, Beverage and Tobacco Sector as the Manufacturers Association of Nigeria (MAN) which held recently in Lagos. Declaring the AGM open, the Director General/CEO – Manufacturers Association of Nigeria, Segun Ajayi-Kadir, mni, urged all manufacturers to remain disciplined and maintain strict adherence to quality by complying with the highest standards in the entire stages of the processing. He stressed the need for unity and collaboration throughout MAN for the overall betterment of the Nigerian economy.

To drive home the message,Cultivating Value: Employing Quality, Standards and Innovation in Strengthening Food, Beverage and Tobacco Manufacturing” was chosen as the theme of the event. Guest Speaker, Mr. Ekuma Eze, told the audience that, “The FBT sector makes up 34 percent of the entire manufacturing sector with a GDP of 5 percent in 2022 and contributed over NGN 500 billion in the last 5 years serves as a catalyst to other arms of the economy while generating an estimated 1.5 million jobs, as well as over 15million indirect jobs.

Mr. Ekuma Eze, who is the Head, Corporate Affairs & Sustainability of Rite Foods Ltd., enthused that many organisations will flourish if they astutely position themselves in the locations of the manufacturing chain where they wield competitive advantage. He said, “Apple remains a global example for quality and innovation. The company – renowned for top products such as iPhone, iPad, Mac, and Apple Watch – does not depend on its own manufacturing alone but relies on a bouquet of suppliers for procuring components for assembly. Having cultivated quality though this process, millions of customers worldwide are willing to pay top dollar for the quality, design, and features of Apple devices. To achieve this greatness, though, Apple has tentacles of partnerships and subsidiaries scattered across India, Taiwan, Bangladesh etc.”

Continuing, Mr. Ekuma Eze said, “Right culture is the key to improved manufacturing. Nigerian manufacturers must be integrous to set and maintain high industry standards and then invest in research and development to create innovative technologies and solutions that makes them unique. Adding that despite political and policy encumbrances, “The FBT companies must build strong partnerships and and effective marketing strategies to combine strength and resources to create value-adding products and then strive to optimize operations via digital transformations.”

A major highpoint of the day was the election of new officials to lead the group. Mr. Chinedu Okereke emerged as the new chairman with Mr. Fred Chiazor as Vice Chairman. Mrs. Olajumoke (Treasurer) and Mrs. Bukola Akanmu (Technical Adviser) completes the quartet.
